Mudd Talks - Consumer Electronics and the Circular Economy
An event for the Harvey Mudd College Community
People are familiar with the phrase, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” but to truly address the problems of climate change and industrial pollution, we need to go further. People and the planet will benefit if industries of all sorts strive toward a circular economy, where nothing becomes waste, and all materials are part of a continuous cycle.
Julia L F Goldstein will discuss the potential for a circular economy with a focus on the electronics industry. What materials go into the electronic devices we use every day, where do they come from, and how are they processed? What are companies doing to reduce the environmental impact of electronics manufacturing, and what more can, and should they do? She will answer these questions and share her perspective on an industry she’s been writing about for 20 years.
